Abseil Challenge – Sunday 17th August

On Sunday, 17th August, seven incredibly brave challengers took to the roof of Hull College to conquer a daring 100ft abseil down the iconic Hull College tower block.

After months of hard work, collaboration with the College, and support from the Lost Earth Adventure team, we were thrilled to get the green light with all risk assessments and health & safety checks signed off allowing us to use the College as our official abseil venue.

With just three weeks' notice, we managed to pull together an incredible event in partnership with two other fantastic local charities: Hull & East Riding Age UK and Paul for Brain Recovery.

Among the fearless abseilers were members of the Hull Jets Ice Hockey Team, including last year’s assistant captain Richie Haggar, a determined participant from Park Street Performing Arts, and even myself, the Community and Events Fundraiser for HEY Children’s University!

The atmosphere was electric as crowds gathered to support and cheer on the challengers. Each participant selected their own abseil anthem, ranging from Puppet on a String to the empowering This Girl is on Fire making every descent unique and personal.

There were tears, a few choice words, huge smiles, and an overwhelming sense of support and community. It was impossible not to get swept up in the spirit of the day.

A huge well done to all our challengers for their courage, energy, and for raising over £1,700 for charity. Your bravery makes a real difference!
