“I’m having the best time EVER!”
That was just one of the many joyful moments shared during a recent visit to our Eco Hub, as a fantastic group of Year 5 pupils from Broadacre Primary School took part in a “Biodiversity & Me” day, proudly sponsored by our Gold Partner, GGP Consult.
Set within the beautiful surroundings of Thwaite Gardens, the day was packed with discovery, curiosity, and hands-on learning. The children explored how biodiversity shapes the world around us, from understanding the impact of diseased trees on entire ecosystems to learning how even small actions in their own communities can make a big difference.
One of the standout moments of the day was learning about the transformation of Yellowstone National Park following the reintroduction of wolves, an inspiring example of how nature can recover and thrive when balance is restored. It sparked big conversations, big thinking, and plenty of “wow” moments.
A special thank you goes to GGP volunteers Lewis and Anna, who helped bring learning to life by sharing how biodiversity connects directly to their own professional roles. Their insights gave the children a powerful understanding of how what they learn today can link to real careers in the future.
At Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University, we believe that experiences like this are vital. Providing hands-on environmental education at an early age helps to build confidence, raise aspirations, and encourage young people to think about the bigger picture. These are the future decision-makers, innovators, and caretakers of our planet, and opportunities like this help equip them for the world ahead.
We are incredibly grateful to GGP Consult for sponsoring our Eco Hub and making days like this possible. Their support is helping us inspire the next generation to care for, understand, and shape the world around them.
