Children's Board Blog: Our First Term

Hear from our Children's Board members, Hollie and Ayomikun, about their first term in post!

Hollie:

So far in the Children's Board, we have had two meetings. One was to introduce us to the Children's Board and tell us what we would be getting up to this year, and the second was to meet the Young Mayor, discuss what job role we were given and talk about how we will design our pictures for the 30th anniversary of HEYCU (HEY Children's University).

At the first meeting, we also met the Lord Mayor, which was very exciting, and signed the same book that Queen Elizabeth II signed!

We had to do a fundraiser before Christmas, which we had £20 for to buy anything we may need for this. We made Rice Krispie buns and made a £41 profit.

My school was even able to invite Alan, who works for HEYCU, to school so we could interview him.

Ayomikun:

At Children's Board we so far had two meetings. In the first meeting, we met the Lord Mayor and got a fundraiser, which was a snack-shack.

We, as well, got assigned roles. We got marketing and communication.

We interviewed Alan, a worker of Children's Uni.

I enjoyed the experience.

Hollie:

On the 10th December, we were invited to KCOM in town to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Learning Zone and even got to see the Learning Zone! When we were there, we got to interview the founder of HEYCU and asked him about why he wanted to start HEYCU. We also interviewed the person who is currently leading Children's University and some KCOM staff.

Ayomikun:

At the KCOM trip, we interviewed the leader of Children's University. We, as well, interviewed John Buttrick, the founder of Children's Uni. We interviewed some KCOM staff, who gave us some information. We got to encounter the Learning Zone, which was gifted by KCOM.
