CLA Easter Experiences Part 1

"I have never been on a train before!".

Such a simple sentence about something we might take for granted. But this little boy was bursting with excitement, not only was he going on a train for the first time but he was going to York too!

Our CLA Learning Experience Programme kicked off this week with a wonderful trip to York. We visited York Railway Museum and Wonderlab then headed through the busy streets to York Chocolate Story for a chocolate making masterclass. New friends were made, new skills were learnt, confidence was built and lots of chocolate was eaten!

The following day was spent at Humber Forest School. We started the day with some games to build the children's confidence in the forest as some had never been in one before.

They foraged for wild garlic and made some dough to make garlic bread over the camp fire.

"Forest School is all about choice" according to one child, some chose to climb trees, some chose to whittle objects, some chose to create natural art. They were taught about the different animals and mini-beasts in the forest and about King Alfred's Cakes!

The next day was spent with Brick Box and Cook Stars. With Brick Box the children had to create different stained glass windows with Lego with a secret message inside, can you find it? They developed their team work skills, resilience and patience as things did not always go to plan!

In the afternoon, the children learnt new skills with Cook Stars. They created quesadillas and calzones using weighing, chopping and mixing skills. Then on to chocolate Easter egg cakes which had very precise instructions that they had to follow carefully including having the correct amount of ingredients.
