More than 100 children from four schools across Hull came together at the MKM Stadium for an exciting Dragon’s Den-style enterprise day hosted by FEO (For Entrepreneurs Only) and HEY CU.
Working alongside experienced entrepreneurs from FEO, each team was challenged to create and develop their own business idea before pitching it to a panel of judges at the end of the day, all in the hope of being crowned the winning team.
Throughout the event, the children explored every aspect of building a business. From identifying a target audience and sourcing suppliers to calculating profit and loss and creating marketing strategies, the students worked collaboratively to turn their ideas into marketable products. With guidance from some of the region’s leading entrepreneurs, the teams were encouraged to think creatively, solve problems and present their ideas with confidence.
The day gave pupils the chance to apply skills they may already use in the classroom to a real-world business setting, often without even realising it. Children stepped into roles including finance manager, content creator and team leader, using their individual strengths to contribute to the success of their group.
The judges were presented with a fantastic range of innovative ideas, including VR learning equipment, edible plates, educational games and squishy toys. After a difficult decision, the winning title was awarded to the creators of the “Turbo Cleaner 1000”, a household cleaning tool designed to make everyday cleaning easier and more efficient.
Most importantly, the event left the children feeling inspired, motivated and proud of what they had achieved.
One pupil said:
“I want to be a business person!”
Another added:
“It has given me confidence because I performed in front of different schools.”
