HEYCU Explorers offer a range of free learning experiences for children with care experience living across Hull and East Yorkshire during the school holidays - and my goodness, they have been busy!
Here are some of the highlights from the first few weeks...
They kicked things off with a VIP visit to The Deep, where our Explorers enjoyed an exclusive tour of Hull's iconic aquarium. They got the chance to feed the fish and turtles, try on diving gear and learn more about the incredible creatures that call The Depp home.
Then it was time to get creative, designing their own tote bags and creating some wonderful sand art. A brilliant day from start to finish.
Next up was a trip to Far Ings Nature Reserve, nestled on the banks of the Humber Estuary. Guided by Emma from the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, the children immersed themselves in nature through a whole host of hands-on activities, including minibeast hunting, tree bingo, habitat building, bird watching and pond dipping. Of course, no summer adventure would be complete without a well-earned ice cream to round off the day.
We also introduced a brand-new Learning Experience at Raywell Park, giving our Explorers the chance to push themselves outside of their comfort zones with an action-packed day. From low ropes and obstacles courses to pedal go-karts, soft archery and even a caving simulation bus, there was plenty to get stuck into.
The most amazing part of the day wasn't any of the activities - it was the fantastic teamwork and support the children showed each other. Some Explorers were nervous, particularly when it came to climbing or crawling into small places, but their teammates where there to encourage them and cheer them on! Everyone completed each challenge to the best of their ability.
HEYCU Explorers were also incredibly grateful to Luke's Bakery for such a warm welcome to his sourdough bakery.
Luke told the children all about being a business owner and took them through the process of making his famous sourdough bread - and of course, they got to try some! Then it was their turn to become business owners for the day.
They created their own pizza business, designed pizza boxes, made radio advertisements and finally, made their very own pizzas! An all-round delicious day and one that gave the children the opportunity to to develop their creative communication and business skills.
It's safe to say our HEYCU Explorers have been busy but the summer holidays aren't over yet, and there are plenty more amazing Learning Experiences still to come!
