Hull 10k

My first event in my new role as Community & Events Fundraiser was the Hull 10K, held this year at its new location, Craven Park. While there was a bit of confusion about where people needed to be (and I may have accidentally promoted myself to a corporate guest!), it turned out to be a brilliant venue and a well-organised event overall.

As it was the first time many hadn’t met me, I tried to make myself as easy to spot as possible by wearing every piece of branded HEY CU gear I could find, tote bags, t-shirts, hoodies anything with a logo! Luckily, our team t shirts are bright and bold, so not only did I stand out but I could also spot our runners from a mile away to give them an encouraging (if slightly awkward) wave.

Before the race, we gathered for a team photo with the HEY CU flag, the perfect moment to share the exciting news that we had already raised £2,500! It gave everyone a great boost before they hit the road.

We had 15 runners take part, including HEY CU team members, corporate partners, and teachers from the schools we support all with different experience levels, but all eager to take on the challenge. The heat on the day was intense and would have tested even the most seasoned runners. I struggled just standing there waving the flag and eating a Cornetto in the sun while cheering everyone on!

Two of our own team members, Nic James and Jo Ingham, ran incredible times and did us proud. But really, every runner achieved something special, whether it was completing their first 10K, hitting a personal best, or just giving it a go.

And the effort didn’t stop at the finish line. After the event, our team kept up the momentum and raised an additional £1,000, bringing our total to an amazing £3,641!
