LEL Blog: A Month in the Life - March!

Hi everyone!

2026 is flying past and the Easter holidays are already upon us! On a personal level, I’m quite happy about this as it has given me a little break from the school trips to catch up with some office work and breathe a little bit, as well as get my teeth into the planning of an exciting project - but more on that later...

Recently, I’ve led more or less every type of trip we do here at HEYCU: I’ve been in London, York, Trawling and last week had a couple of days in Edinburgh, which honestly is up there with some of my favourite trips I’ve ever had.

March started with Griffin coming along to the Learning Zone for their Trawling experience. I do love this trip! It’s a great way to teach the kids about Hull’s Heritage, whilst having a lot of fun with the day.

Next up, it was across to York with Stockwell for what would be two trips with them. Both trips would be visiting the Jorvik Centre, which gives the children a visual look at what Viking life actually looked like. Our LEL Phil is currently working on this trip to make it really Viking heavy, with an adapted tour for schools who have Vikings on their curriculum. I look forward to having the training and updating you all in future blogs!

Then, for the last weeks of March, I took a couple of schools from Bridlington on trips. First up, Quay Primary came down to London. We headed to the Science Museum and had a ride on the London Eye. Thankfully, it was a really sunny day so the views were incredible. It was nice to see a few of the children supporting friends with fears of heights and all the children enjoyed the trip. Last week, Bay Primary headed up to Edinburgh. I have to thank one of our LELs, Andy F, here: my volunteer for this trip unfortunately had to drop out and Andy stepped in very last minute to ensure the trip could run smoothly and the children could have a fantastic time. The headteacher and class teacher both commented on how good the trip was and how much the children enjoyed it.

Now for the good news... I am excited to announce that 'HEYCU in the Holidays' is coming back! We have been awarded funding to start a new cohort from the summer, which is amazing news as it's something I really enjoy and we see incredible benefits from. I won't give too much away now - stick around for future blog!

It's an exciting time to be part of HEYCU!
