With the Easter holidays taking up much of April, it certainly was a varied month for me!
Either side of the school break I was busy with the usual school experiences. I took Clifton Primary to London, created trawling experts out of St Nicholas Primary and met with children from Mersey Primary ahead of their Kip in a Ship experience next month on the HMS Belfast in the capital.
The Easter holidays gave me the opportunity to help our teenage 'Step Up and Move On' programme. Organised by Jo, it helps them to continue to think about their futures in a much smaller group. I joined them as they visited Goxhill Meadows, giving them a chance to work with animals and the different jobs associated with it, and toured Wilberforce College to learn about the all the different courses available to give them with the qualifications they will need for their dream job when they leave school.
The break also gave the rest of the team a chance to meet up and discuss experiences we have all recently led. This is always a valuable catch up - we all seem to pick up a useful tip to make the days run as smoothly as possible.
We were also able to reflect on the positive changes we'd made to our Hull-based experiences, such as Ambassadors of Hull, Trawling and our new Blitz programme, and had the pleasure of a guided tour of the city centre by David Todd, to gain even more nuggets of interesting information to pass on to the children.
One thing that often gets missed is the work done by the staff in the office, such as booking trains, emailing schools etc. We couldn’t lead these trips without their help and back up, so it is also a chance to catch up with them.
