Lights, Camera, Storytime! Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University Teams Up with INIT Creative for an Unmissable New Storytelling Series

Famous local faces bring stories to life in a brand-new series marking the National Year of Reading - and the children of Hull are going to love it!

Something exciting is coming to Hull - and it involves some very recognisable faces!

Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University, the local charity on a mission to ignite children’s dreams and inspire a love of learning, has joined forces with Hull’s very own INIT Creative to launch Storytime in Hull - a feel-good video series created especially for local schools to mark the National Year of Reading.

Taking its cue from popular CBeebies Bedtime Stories, the project puts a proudly local spin on the format. Instead of famous faces from the telly, Storytime in Hull features famous faces from the city of Hull. Each one has been invited to sit down, pick up a book, and read aloud, just for the children of Hull and East Yorkshire.

New episodes will drop every two weeks in the run-up to the summer holidays, professionally filmed and produced by INIT Creative. Each story will be shared directly with local schools and uploaded to YouTube so they can be played both in the classroom and in the home.

“We wanted to create some storytelling videos as schools were telling us that they would love to have more examples of these to share with their children. I had seen the CBeebies series and thought how fantastic it would be if we could create something similar just for our city. Storytime in Hull is about sparking that magic moment when a child falls in love with a book and I hope that the adults will enjoy watching the videos just as much as the children. We are absolutely thrilled to be doing this alongside the brilliant team at INIT Creative as I knew they would make the videos totally magical. Keep an eye out for the videos, this is going to be something really special.”

— Rose James, CEO, Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University

“This is exactly the kind of project that reminds you why you got into creative work in the first place. Storytime in Hull is joyful, it’s warm, and it’s rooted in this incredible city we call home. Getting to work with Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University to make it happen has been a real privilege. We’ve had so much fun bringing it to life, and we genuinely can’t wait for children AND adults to see those famous Hull faces, book in hand, reading just for them.”
