Safer Internet Day with our Gold Partners, KCOM

Tuesday 10th February was Safer Internet Day, a global campaign all about helping people stay safe and make smart choices online. This year’s focus was all about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it’s shaping the world around us.

To mark the day, our Gold partners KCOM, working alongside Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University, invited 50 children from local schools to the MKM Stadium for a fun and interactive day of learning.

With technology playing such a big role in everyday life, it’s more important than ever to help children understand how to use it safely and responsibly. Guided by KCOM’s team and new digital safety mascot, KOMIT, the pupils got stuck into a range of hands-on activities designed to build their understanding of AI, what it is, how it’s used, and what to watch out for.

The sessions sparked lots of great conversations about the opportunities AI brings, as well as the importance of staying safe online. It was a fantastic chance for the children to ask questions, share ideas and grow their confidence in navigating today’s digital world.

Here’s what some of the children said:

“I like that (KOMIT) is a robot. I like his design. He looks pretty cool. I’ve enjoyed today a lot. It’s better than normal school and great to come to the football stadium. The internet is something we all use – so it’s good to know more about it.”

“It’s good to know what to do and what not to do online. I think KOMIT’s a good way to help teach people about the dangers on the internet.”

“I think internet safety is really important, and I’ve learned a lot about AI and what it can be used for today.”
