The Start of The Summer Fun!

Pinewood Trust

Last week, a group of children visited Pinewood Trust in Brandesburton. They enjoyed a range of exciting outdoor activities, from exploring the woodland to discovering hidden creatures on a child initiated mini beast hunt, riding bikes and working together to complete tasks. The children also had a fantastic time riding their bikes along the scenic trail, building confidence and having lots of fun along the way (especially when searching for brambles), it was heartwarming to hear them encouraging each other to keep going. The children were given time to be present in nature, challenge themselves safely, work in a team, climb, explore and craft. Learning through play is so important, and the children did exactly that!

Flamborough

On Friday, another group of children visited Flamborough South Landing to become Marine Biologists for the day! They began the day learning about the importance of protecting our beaches, and how to explore rock pools safely and respectfully. They then set off (down the steep hill!) to begin rock pooling and discovered fish, a variety of crabs and they were fortunate enough to even find a shrimp and a lobster! In the afternoon, they got creative making their own soap using natural ingredients like seaweed, lavender, orange, and essential oils. The day ended with a beach clean, where everyone worked together to help care for the marine life. It was a fantastic day and the sun shone for us!

The Deep

The children enjoyed a VIP experience at The Deep. They experienced a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium, fed the lagoon animals and met the staff that work at The Deep to ask them questions about the animals that they care for. They learnt lots of information about the fascinating jelly fish.

Far Ings Nature Reserve

On Wednesday, the children spent the day with the team at Far Ings Nature Reserve, where they learnt about the different wildlife in the area and learnt how to identify the creatures that live in the reserve. They put their knowledge to the test whilst bird watching and spotted a huge bird of prey. In the afternoon, the children used natural resources to create clay decorations for the trees and prints. The children used their imaginations and used the clay to design something that brings the tree’s personality to life whilst others created wildlife that they had seen throughout the day.

Goxhill Meadows

This experience is the first of a group of three sessions for the same group of children. This first visit was focused on relationships with others and the animals. Goxhill Meadows aims to encourage children and adults to be present in the moment and to reconnect with themselves. The children worked in partnership with the animals and took part in activities that deepened their own personal awareness, increased their confidence and self-esteem. Each child tried something new and challenged themselves.
